2nd Conference on Vocational Education “Vocational Education in Georgia: Opportunities and Challenges”

Academician Jaba Samushia, the Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, opened the 2nd Vocational Education Conference “Vocational Education in Georgia: Opportunities and Challenges,” organized by the TSU Vocational Education Center. This annual conference aims to discuss the importance of vocational education, its challenges, innovations, and career development opportunities.

"The development of vocational education is important for the country, because it provides knowledge oriented towards the labor market. It is natural that representatives of various vocational schools would gather at the conference to discuss existing problems, issues that must be resolved, and opportunities that schools should provide to students intending to enroll in vocational programs,” said Jaba Samushia.

The following individuals made their welcome speeches: Tamar Kvinikadze, Head of the Vocational Education Development Department of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia; Irine Margishvili, Head of the Skills Agency; Lasha Margishvili, Head of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement; Kakhaber Cheishvili, Deputy Rector of Tbilisi State University; and Levan Tsikaridze, Head of the TSU Vocational Education Center.

Students and graduates of vocational programs, teachers, and administrative staff from various vocational education institutions attended the conference, as well as representatives of partner organizations from vocational institutions in Tbilisi and the regions. Participants presented 26 reports on current issues in the field.

As part of the event, an exhibition and sale of handmade items by TSU vocational student Elene Nino Maisuradze was held.

A trip to Kakheti is also planned for the conference participants. The tour includes a visit to the Gremi Complex, a monument of Georgian architecture, as well as a charity visit to the social enterprise Temi Community in the village of Gremi.

Since 2007, TSU has been implementing vocational education programs. Since 2019, the TSU Vocational Education Center has been responsible for administering vocational programs. Currently, the center runs 16 programs in Tbilisi and Kutaisi, with approximately 400 students enrolled.
